DAISY HOUSE - Rapid City

Hello, I am Shirley Allen and I want to welcome you to The Daisy House!   We are located at 2800 Jackson Boulevard, Suite 401, in Rapid City. Our focus of the Daisy House is “person-centered care” in a home-like environment.   We provide day care for loved ones living at home, but not able to care for themselves “on their own."

While the Daisy House provides respite care for any person living with a disability, many of the participants at the Daisy House are older adults going through the natural process of aging. The Daisy House staff believes that aging is a graceful time of life. Dignity, self-worth and respect are an essential part of the care your loved one receives.

The Daisy House is not an institution or nursing home—it is a way of life. Without strict schedules or rules, we are able to share daily life experiences, take advantage of spontaneous opportunities to play card games,

Bingo, create memory books through scrapbooking, play croquet or Frisbee on the lawn, and learn new hobbies--like ceramics. Shirley, the Daisy House Director, says “We are a family here--laughing, dancing and storytelling are just a part of our day.”

Participants enjoy being met at the door each day by Mattie, our registered therapy dog. She oversees her “people” while they read, watch television or take a walk. Other activities of her “people” have included dancing, music therapy, puzzles, picnics, gardening and supervised outings to local attractions.

SAllen@southdakotacares.org welcomes inquiries and will give tours, explaining our mission at the Daisy House. She can be reached at (605) 348-6459 or click on her name to send her an e-mail for more information.
