South Dakota CARES, Inc.
Brief History
In 1925, the polio epidemic had greatly affected South Dakota citizens. In order to help children inflicted with this terrible disease, a group of concerned citizens began raising money to help these families with doctor bills and medical equipment. In 1939, they formed the South Dakota Society for Crippled Children. Our name has since been changed to South Dakota CARES! CARES represents: Caring, Advancement, Respect, Education and Solutions for families and individuals living with disabilities.
South Dakota CARES has helped people with disabilities and their families in South Dakota for almost 69 years. Individuals gain hope, support and greater independence through programs and services that we provide. Our mission to serve the people of South Dakota will continue for many generations to come.
South Dakota CARES’ corporate office is located in Pierre, with satellite offices in Madison, Watertown, and Rapid City.
